Multidisciplinary Acute Care Research Organization

The Multidisciplinary Acute Care Research Organization (MACRO) is a joint clinical trials enterprise focusing on acute care and led by the Departments of Critical Care MedicineSurgeryEmergency Medicine, and the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. MACRO's overall mission is to facilitate clinical research in an ethical, fiscally sound, and regulatory compliant manner. MACRO provides resources for investigators and participants in acute care settings including the emergency department, ICU, and operating room.

A key service provided by MACRO is 24/7 screening and enrollment of research participants. In addition to coordinating numerous studies over multiple departments and divisions, MACRO also serves as overall coordinating center for five multicenter trials, including the large (DoD) LITES project, a research network linking U.S. trauma centers. MACRO also supports two large NIH trial networks (NETTPETAL). Additional information about MACRO and currently enrolling studies can be found here.
